Yacht Pirated
April 07 , 2008

Pirates on the High Seas

When you think of Pirates- visions of Blackbeard and Long John Silver may come to mind, but for the luxury yacht Le Ponant, sea tales have become reality.

The French luxury yacht was off Africa 's eastern coast with 30 crewmembers on board, the French foreign minister said Sunday. The Ponant was seized on Friday by Pirates. In the crew, 22 are French, and most of the others are Ukrainian or Korean. The crew includes six women.

A handout photo from the French maritime transport company CMA-CGM shows the luxury yacht Le Ponant.

The Pirates who hijacked a luxury French yacht off last week have opened fire at local gunmen who stopped them from coming ashore in the chaotic Horn of Africa.

The group of roughly 10 members of the GIGN, a police force trained to deal with hijackings and hostage situations, was due to arrive in neighboring on Monday.

Abdirahman Mohamed Bangah, information minister for the semiautonomous northern region of Puntland, said he hoped international forces will "rescue this ship" at Eyl, confirming its location. The U.S. Navy has led international patrols to try to combat piracy in the region. But an increase in naval patrols has coincided with a rash of kidnappings of foreigners on land.

's prime minister said Saturday that he hoped to avoid force in freeing the crew but that no options had been ruled out.

Stay safe out on the High Seas. Keep a sharp lookout and pay attention, harm can come in all shapes and sizes.

Thats a wrap,

325 feet Wally Island
April 02 , 2008

Island Paradise on the High Seas…

Monaco-based Wally Yachts continues to develop innovative concepts and minimalist luxury at a rate exceeding any other marine design house on the planet. Their newest endeavor?  WallyIsland – which at 325 feet is the "gigayacht" that dwarfs the vast majority of luxury megayachts and reinvents the yacht as a floating personal island.

Yacht Wally Island

For most of us commoners, a 180-foot personal superyacht would be enough to establish ourselves as a seriously wealthy owner – but over the last ten years, in the never ending spirit of excess, the megayacht emerged, at over 220 feet long. And when the ostentatious mega-rich start competing, enormous isn't nearly big enough. Over the last ten years, several yachts have been built over the 320-foot mark.

WallyIsland looks more like a tanker than its gigayacht counterparts, due to the huge main deck area and the fact that is has only three upper-level decks rather than the multilevel arrangements typical on others. It's designed this way to increase open entertaining space and allow large garden spaces, and this sort of design also keeps the cost of the yacht "competitive”.

The WallyIsland's main deck can include a large, deep swimming pool, garden spaces, tennis or mini soccer grounds, as well as the requisite helipads. It includes sleeping quarters for up to 40 crew and 24 guests as well as the extravagant owner's suites. The aft deck holds two 45-foot WallyPower tender yachts, as well as space for several other yachts and water toys on board. Just in case you think you’ll get bored!

Send us your videos of your mega yacht experience! Upload them to SplashVision today!

That’s a wrap!

Splash Vision's Launch is something special among Social Media Sites
April 13 , 2007

03-13-07 Splash Vision Goes Live!

News out of South Florida; the world's yachting, cruise ship, and tourist capital and gateway to one of the greatest water playgrounds in existence; Splash Vision announces its long awaited Beta release. Splash Vision is the only social community website of its kind. Splash Vision is attracting the eyes of wealthy boat, yacht and ship owners and enthusiasts from around the world, including the biggest sport community in the world; fishing. Water sport fanatics, oil and gas industries, ship and yacht brokers, universities and research centers and the travel industry all have a place on Splash Vision.

Splash Vision is like no other social media site. Launched and backed by Chief Executive, real estate investor and acclaimed mega yacht captain, Todd Weider in 2007, SplashVision.com is now stocked with thousands of Videos and Photos in its beta release.

"You may have dabbled in YouTube," Todd Weider explains, "but if you really want to connect with your market and those in your field; you want to be around like minds with common interests, part of a community which shares common ground.  Splash Vision is that community.  Advertisers now have the opportunity to address a community where the majority of users have significant disposable income".

Weider is a successful maritime industry veteran and has a rolodex full of contacts and relationships throughout the world.  He traveled the globe for 18 years and knows people who live, work and play on or around the water. "People around the water are different than the rest of society. They want to interact and share knowledge, experience, stories and what they have seen in their travels. How many times have you been out on the water and someone from another vessel waves at you for no reason at all?  Most of those enthusiasts are affluent with disposable income".

Splash Vision is focused squarely on the ocean related and maritime market.  The site is based in the heart of it all, Fort Lauderdale, Florida .  "We are not fighting for the same content or users as the other social media sites.  We are not competition with them and they are not competition for us.  Our users are not looking for the latest clip of a dance video.  They are looking for the latest in Mega Ship Construction, a clip of Freedom of the Seas - the largest cruise ship in the world, Paul Allen's new $150 million dollar yacht 'Octopus', the latest gadget for their company or boat and seeing it in action, the sun and fun party spots like Nikki Beach Club in Miami or St Tropez, and Sea Creatures in their natural habitat. Just one visit to the site and you instantly see how this is something totally refreshing, useful and fun.

Splash Vision is currently in talks with many content partners; including some of the largest print media companies. "Splash Vision will enable print media to expand reach.  "When was the last time you picked up a magazine and said "I wish I could see 'it' in action"?  We enable this to happen".  One of the goals of Splash Vision is to offer value added services to its partners.  "We are not competition, we are facilitators."  Splash Vision offers value added services which help print media fill in the gaps.  Print media can now deliver to readers and advertisers an experience they have never before experienced.

Splash Vision allows users to store their media and embed it onto their own linked sites.  For example; if a boat manufacturer has a promotional video of a new vessel, Splash Vision hosts it for them and the boat manufacturer can then embed the media on their own page without having to build and or design any of the back end required for playing the video[[[more importantly, SV delivers thousands of enthusiasts surfing the site]]].  Splash Vision offers a clear value to its users and partners, and this is only phase 1 for Splash Vision; next will follow an entire suite of advertising tools for partners.  Splash Vision will be offering new technologies not available on other Social Media Sites or anywhere on the web.

Splash Vision will also provide profit sharing; users will be rewarded a percentage of earnings on media which attract attention.  "When was the last time you advertised and had an opportunity to get paid for your advertisement?  It's a whole new world and we want to help our users capitalize on the experience.  We want it to be a win / win."

Splash Vision is on a mission to attract the attention of affluent boat owners, travelers, ship builders, research centers, fishermen, water sport fanatics and beach goers.  They are on the right path and their success is imminent.
