Time to clean up
August 26 , 2008
Start a Sea Change: Join us for an international cleanup!
We all talk a lot about keeping our beaches and oceans clean. But do you really do anything to help them stay clean? You may clean up after yourself, but do you pick up trash left by other careless beachgoers? If you see trash floating on the ocean or lake while out boating, do you grab a net and scoop it up? Or do you turn your head the other way. If that’s what you do, you are contributing to the problem just as much as the litterbugs! But there is something you can do to help. Like all grassroots movements, the continued success of the International Coastal Cleanup depends on the participation of everyday people, just like us! Consider the impact you can make by dedicating one day to this worthy cause!
This year’s International Coastal Cleanup will be held September 20th. The International Coastal Cleanup provides a terrific way to make a difference. Trash in the ocean kills more than one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals each year through ingestion and entanglement. Last year, 378,000 volunteers from 76 countries and 45 states cleared six million pounds of trash from oceans and waterways and recorded every piece of trash collected.
Volunteers record each piece of trash picked up at sites around every major body of water around the world. Local and regional coordinators then collect the raw data that is calculated by Ocean Conservancy including number of volunteers on each site, the number of pounds of trash removed, and what items were collected. Ocean Conservancy uses this data to produce a global snapshot of the issue of trash in our ocean. To volunteer, click here.
While out volunteering, take some video of what you and your fellow volunteers are doing! Then upload your video to SplashVision to share just how severe the problem is!
That’s a wrap!

Water Toys
August 26 , 2008
It’s good to be man (or woman!) new gadgets come out on a nearly daily basis and one of my new favorites is a fish finder.

Oh no, don’t roll your eyes. THIS fish finder is placed on your wrist! Go Go Gadget Fish finder! Stick your wrist into the water, and watch as little video fish pop up on the screen. No fish…well, that means you need to go out a bit further! Perfect for those in small canoes or fishing boats or out in a pond or small lake without today’s modern conveniences.

Cleaning the pool is a pain in every pool owner’s weekend chores. Getting kids to clean the pool- yeah, right! But with this new ‘toy’, even my 2 year old might be able to make some sort of contribution to pool maintenance! Introducing the Remote control pool boat skimmer! For a mere $139 (which, really is comparable to most high quality skimmers), you can clean and play for a full 50 minutes on a full charge! The boat picks up debris into a removable net which is cleaned out as needed, or when you are finished!
This is definitely on my wish list!!!
Do you have a new and favorite toy for fishing or the pool? Upload your videos today and share with the SplashVision community!
That’s a wrap!

Top 3 Beach Resorts & Spas
August 15 , 2008
As hard as it is to believe, summer is actually winding down. Fall is just upon us, and winter not that far behind (seriously! I promise!)
Wyndham Cozumel Resort & Spa
Looking to unwind after these busy summer days? Perhaps a trip to the top rated beach resort spas will refresh you for the rest of the season!
With summer winding down are you feeling a little tense? Stressed out? Are you craving your next vacation? Now is the perfect time to plan a trip to the
Caribbean , where some of the top spas in the world are offering some serious pampering.
The Spa at Rosewood Little Dix in Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands is known as one of the most beautiful places to relax in the
Caribbean . If being tucked away in a lush tropical garden, high on a cliff overlooking the sea sounds good to you- this is the place! The spa specializes in Hot Stone Massage (a personal favorite!), an entire body ‘facial’ like treatment known as ‘The Caribbean Breeze’, and a two hour body massage and exfoliation treatment.
Next is Curtain Bluff in
Antigua ! This new spa is built into a bluff overlooking the ocean An intimate experience, the Curtain Bluff offers only 5 treatment rooms! Relax to the sound of waterfalls while you enjoy the caviar and champagne massage- you get to drink champagne, but its also poured all over your body! If you are sunburned from laying too long on the beach (tsk, tsk!) the Water Lilly Wrap helps relieve the pain and soreness associated with sunburn! And in case you are worried about those cellulite bumps on your backside, the Green Coffee Wrap promises to help reduce the appearance of fat and produces a nice, slimming effect!
And for my third top pick, we go back to the British Virgin Islands, to the
Peter
Island resort and spa! If exclusivity and luxury are requirements, this is the place to book! Conde Nast even named it as one of "The Best Places to Stay in the World"! While surrounded by natures perfection, you can enjoy a Thermal Sand Bundle Massage – which is kind of similar to a hot stone massage, only heated sand bags are placed on tension areas!
There it is folks- my three top spa retreats in paradise galore! Where is your favorite spa location? Upload your video and share your experience with the SplashVision community today!
That’s a (hot sandbag) wrap!
