REPORTS FROM A NOAA HURRICANE HUNTER PLANE INDICATE THAT DOLLY IS GRADUALLY INTENSIFYING. THE SFMR ON BOARD OF THE PLANE REPORTED AN ISOLATED PEAK OF 65 KNOTS.
A MINIMUM PRESSURE OF 991 MB AND AN OPEN EYEWALL OF 20 NMI IN DIAMETER. SSMI DATA SHOWS THE EARLY STAGES OF A CONVECTING RING AROUND THE CENTER. CONVECTIONALSATELLITE IMAGES REVEAL NUMEROUS CONVECTIVE BANDS WITH A LITTLE BETTER DEFINED OUTFLOW. BEST ESTIMATE OF INITIAL INTENSITY IS 60 KNOTS.
GLOBAL MODELS SHOW A LARGE 200 MB ANTICYCLONE OVER DOLLY.
THIS UPPER-LEVEL PATTERN IN COMBINATION WITH WARM WATERS SHOULD RESULT IN STRENGTHENING. BOTH GFDL AND HWRF INTENSITY FORECASTS HAVE GONE UP AND DOWN WITH EACH RUN...BUT THE OVERALL TREND IS UPWARD.
THE OFFICIAL FORECAST BRINGS DOLLY TO 80 KNOTS AT LANDFALL...5 KNOTS HIGHER THAN INDICATED BY ALL GUIDANCE.
FIXES FROM THE NOAA PLANE INDICATE THAT DOLLY IS MOVING TOWARD THE
NORTHWEST OR 305 DEGREES AT 10 KNOTS. A GENERAL NORTHWEST TO WEST-NORTHWEST TRACK WITH A SLIGHT DECREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS INDICATED UNTIL LANDFALL ON WEDNESDAY. THEREAFTER...A RIDGE IS FORECAST TO BUILD NORTH OF DOLLY AND THE CYCLONE SHOULD THEN TURN MORE TO WEST...BUT VERY SLOWLY.
THE OFFICIAL FORECAST IS VERY CLOSE TO THE MODEL CONSENSUS AND BRINGS THE CORE OF DOLLY NEAR THE /US BORDER ON WEDNESDAY.
IT SHOULD BE RE-EMPHASIZED THAT...DUE TO THE INHERENT UNCERTAINTIES...ONE MUST NOT FOCUS ON THE EXACT
LANDFALL

Yacht Aid Global

Super yachts are seldom seen as charitable envoys. But a San Diego organization called YachtAid Global is changing that perception by arranging the delivery by yacht of free school supplies to coastal communities in , Central America and
South America . The organization is expanding to port communities world wide. The communities to which school supplies are delivered accommodate yachts that call for various reasons such as guest and owner pickup and drop off, layovers, refueling and reprovisioning. The ultimate objective of these charitable efforts is preservation of the near shore ocean environment via education of the local kids.
Organization
YachtAid Global engages yacht captains, crews and owners to participate in its program through donations and/or transport of school supplies, as well as volunteering their time in country. Purchases are funded by a
San Diego yacht-service company, C2C Inc., founded by the Executive Director of YachtAid Global. www.c2conline.net Additional financial support is being solicited among companies that serve the yachting industry as well as from yacht owners. The group’s first corporate donor is Frankentek Yacht Systems, LLC of Medford, New Jersey, designer and installer of highly sophisticated electronic security systems for super yachts. www.frankentek.com More yachts are being recruited to join the half dozen already involved in the program.
Operations
Goods for donation are sourced and purchased by YachtAid Global from their headquarters in
San Diego . A shipment destined for delivery by yacht will typically include dry erase markers and boards, blunt scissors, color pencils, poster board, rulers, crayons, construction paper and pencils. Yachts delivering supplies work with local agents who arrange unloading and delivery to selected schools. Local agents are hand picked by YachtAid. YachtAid Global is exploring joint-venture opportunities with other charitable organizations worldwide. The organization’s slogan is “Changing the world without changing course: volunteer—donate—transport.”
Ports of Call
The communities whose schools are assisted by YachtAid Global are ports that have long been hospitable to the Super Yacht Fleet. They include Belize City, in , and ’s San Blas Islands. There are also many other ports throughout , , and that are setup to receive assistance.
History
YachtAid Global was founded in 2006 by Captain Mark Drewelow, a veteran of 20 years of yachting experience with a ¼ million world wide miles at sea. Captain Drewelow also founded C2C, Inc., a yacht-service firm in
San Diego , in 2003. Currently the principal benefactor of YachtAid Global, C2C’s business includes turn key streamlined solutions for the large yachts such as fuel brokering, supplying books and charts, provisioning, crew placement, voyage planning, dockage and yacht management.
Miscellany
YachtAid Global is also active in environmental conservation, cooperating with The Reef Check Foundation by distributing literature —including a booklet for children — about coral reef preservation.
