Glacier Bay Grounding
July 14 , 2008

Cruise Ship Hard Aground in Alaska

Cruise West’s Spirit of Glacier Bay is reported to have run aground in Glacier Bay. The US Coastguard is attending the incident. There are no injuries and hull integrity has not been breached, although a boom has been deployed as a precaution. The reason for the grounding is still unknown. Passengers are being transferred to the departure port of Juneau, and the vessel is expected to re-float at high tide.

Secret Beaches
July 11 , 2008

Beaches are in no short supply here in Florida , but have you been to some of the out of the way ones? The ones that aren’t tourist lined with palm trees and massive hotels?

It’s easy to pass by these towns, but you need to keep them on their radar!

Delray Beach, South Florida
With beautifully preserved dunes and wide sand beaches hidden behind tangled arches of sea grapes, Delray Beach is a secret gem!  Locals love the kite boarding and you can find novices and experienced kite boarders on most days! The town is full of cool boutiques and European-style sidewalk bistros on

Atlantic Avenue
giving a trendy yet down to earth attitude!

Sebastian Inlet , Space Coast
Fishermen have long been lured to Sebastian Inlet State Park, where daily hauls off the pier - snook, redfish and mackerel are often more impressive than what the boats bring in from offshore.

Beach lovers will be as thrilled as their pier-fishing counterparts! The 3-mile stretch of pristine ocean and beaches give a perfect place to relax by the waves. And speaking of waves, paddle out a bit and you’re sure to catch some decent sized ones! The Space Coast has long been known for its amazing surfing, especially during the winter months! . Nature loves will adore the sea turtle nesting area and ability to spot bottlenose dolphins and manatees in the park's waters.

Atlantic Beach , Jacksonville
While most consider Atlantic Beach more residential in nature (which is true), the Beaches here are lined with wildflowers and antebellum homes rather than the towering condos and chain hotels you'd find to the south.

Those who enjoy bike riding will find the sand wide and packed enough for pedaling at low tide, while the surfers gather to the north near May Port Naval Station, where one of the best breaks on Florida's northeast coast lies.

Ship ablaze
July 10 , 2008

cutty sark fire london

Twenty fire trucks doused a massive blaze aboard a cargo ship Saturday night, and authorities reported all nine crew members were safely evacuated.

At 8:12 p.m., city of Miami and Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue officials responded to the call of the ship on fire at 2974 S. River Dr.

The ship, Atlantic, was carrying cars, mattresses and bicycles and ultimately headed to Haiti. It was loaded with 6,000 gallons of fuel -- making it difficult to immediately determine the cause of the fire, said Lt. Ignatius Carroll, of the Miami Fire Department.

One of the crew members first spotted the fire and the crew tried -- but failed -- to extinguish it. Authorities were interviewing them late Saturday.
