Florida Keys Fishing Spots
The Team Goes Fishing
One of our favorite activities is to go sport fishing down in the keys. While it is a bit a jaunt to get down there, we have never been disappointed! The scenery, the ability to go deep sea fishing, or surf fishing, and nearly everything in between, the keys offers fishermen of all skills and tastes a lot of fun! Here are our top 4 fishing spots in the
Florida keys!
Best Spot #1
Key Largo ! Florida Keys fishing begins in
Key Largo . And at only a 90-minute drive from
Miami
International
Airport -
Key Largo fishing offers up supreme flats and backcountry fishing for both the novice and the veteran angler.
Key Largo is just minutes from Florida Key offshore fishing, too, on the Atlantic side.
Do you love scuba diving or snorkeling? Why not combine the two sports on your Florida Key fishing vacation? There are also over 25 dive sites and many snorkeling locations. Key Largo is also home to the only underwater park (mentioned in detail in a previous blog) in the !
Best Spot #2
Marathon ! One of the best Florida Keys vacations is found at
Marathon ! Known affectionately by the locals as "The Heart of the Keys”,
Marathon lays claim to the best Florida Key tarpon fishing. Offshore fishing from
Marathon is done over an underwater platform known as the West Hump, which boasts depths of 1,100 to 480 feet. Nearby, the Bahia Honda State Park is fun for everyone!
Best Spot #3
Islamorada, Florida nown as the sportfishing capital of the world, and home to many world-class fishing tournaments! Islamorada is home to the world-class Islamorada Sailfish Tournament in late November-early December. You can also enjoy deep-sea fishing for mahi-mahi or dolphin fish or even shark! Islamorada has a number of smaller, more private beaches that are nestled within the shade of surrounding palm trees for you to enjoy while surfcasting.
Final Spot-
Key West ! Key West is the last major key is the
Florida Keys . This means that it's just a short hop out to deep-sea fishing, from Key West out to where the
Gulf stream and the Atlantic waters meet.
Key West has many fishing tournaments; one of the most notable is the World Sailfish Championship.

Fouth of July in Florida
June 25 , 2008
Florida 4th of July Activities 2008
It’s hard to believe that the 4th of July is only a little over a week away! While trying to cover every event would be a novel length undertaking, We are going to highlight some from our own stomping grounds, some of the most popular events Floridians (and tourists!) love to go and see each year!
Oceanside Fireworks 2007
In
Davie the fun starts at 10 a.m. with a free family splash pool party. A DJ will be playing tunes by the pool. There is also an arts and crafts show and World War I and II military tank, jeep and equipment show. You can buy food and munchies there, or bring a cooler of your own goodies, since grills and tables are available! Country group Shadow Creek will kick off the evening festivities at 6 p.m. in the ball fields. Kids enjoy bounce houses, climbing wall and free birthday cake in honor of this nation's big birthday party. Patriotic fireworks start at 9 p.m. at
Pine
Island
Park on 92nd avenue.
Fort Lauderdale: Celebrate 's Independence by joining the festivities from 1-9:30 p.m. on
Fort Lauderdale
Beach . A DJ will be entertaining with contests and games starting at 1 p.m. on Southeast Fifth Street and A1A. A water balloon toss and hula-hoop contest will be part of the fun. The Storm Riders and the Bulldogs start the live music at 4:30 p.m. The sky lights up at 9:00 p.m. for this annual fireworks show that blasts off from a barge off A1A and Las Olas Boulevard.
Greenacres: Ignite the Night, from 5:30-10 p.m., features amusement rides ($15 covers all the rides you want!) family games and music performed by Tony & Totall Kontroll. Pull up your lawn chairs, sit back and relax to the bang and boom of the fireworks at 9 p.m at the
Greenacres
Community
Park . The Wall Street Plaza annual Fourth of July Block Party is a hotspot for many locals over Independence Day weekend. This is the place to celebrate into the late night hours, with outdoor stages sponsored by local clubs and restaurants, and a fireworks display for the crowds.
Of course, all the theme parks plan a celebration...you can still take in the Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks display at Disney's
Magic
Kingdom at 9 p.m. A fireworks display is also scheduled at
Pleasure
Island in Downtown Disney. If you choose to spend the day at SeaWorld instead, head over to the live animal show s including 'Shamu Rocks America' with a patriotic touch. At night, SeaWorld will host a fireworks display and live entertainment throughout the park.
And for the GRANDDADDY of them all (at least in Orlando).....FIREWORKS AT THE FOUNTAIN. Over 100,000 people attended this fireworks show held at Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando last year, and free admission and plenty of parking make this a great reason to head to the city. You'll find entertainment at the amphitheater, along with kids' activities and carnival-style games. Fireworks at the Fountain is scheduled from 4p.m.-10 p.m.
If your on the water this fourth of July be safe and be sure to share your
Holiday festivities and patriotism with the Splashvision Community!

Vacations Abroad
June 22 , 2008
A Foreign Affair!
If you tire of vacationing in the United States, but think an international vacation will hit the bank account too hard- think again!

Cape Town, Africa is famous for its harbor as well as its natural setting in the Cape floral kingdom, which includes well-known landmarks as
Table
Mountain and Cape Point. Cape Town is the most popular tourist destination due to its good climate, natural setting, and relatively well-developed infrastructure. The city has several well-known natural features that attract tourists, most notably
Table
Mountain . Take a drive along Chapman's Peak Drive, a narrow road that links Noordhoek with
Hout
Bay , for splendid views of the
Atlantic Ocean and nearby mountains. The beaches are also favorite spots for locals and tourists alike! The beaches located on the
Atlantic
Coast tend to have very cold water as the water is mostly glacial melt from
Antarctica . But if you go to
False Bay , expect warmer water by up to 18 degrees! Surfing is popular and the city of
Simon ’s Town hosts the Red Bull Big Wave Africa surfing competition every year.

If Africa is a bit far for you, then why not give
Central America a try! Costa Rica is the most visited nation in the Central American region, with 1.9 million foreign visitors last year, which translates into a relatively high expenditure per tourist of $1000 per trip, with an extremely favorable exchange rate ( $1 gets you 520 Costa Rican colones), that’s quite a bang for your buck! For our readers who are attuned to ‘being green’, Ecotourism is extremely popular throughout the extensive national parks systems and protected areas around the country was a pioneer in ecotourism, and is one of the few areas recognized as having a true ecotourism industry!

Go just a tad north, and you’ll find yourself in , which also hosts a favorable exchange rate (10.36 pesos to the dollar). The
Sea of
Cortes , most commonly known as "the world’s aquarium", is one of the most fascinating places in the world thanks to the tremendous number of different species that live in the area. You can find almost everything from fish, dolphins, sharks and coral reefs. You can also observe curious natural phenomena, like the great streams of hot water that gush forth from submarine chimneys, as well as the fantastic cascades of sand which are submarine slides of rocks and other minerals skidding towards the bottom of the sea.

Cancun and
Cozumel offer pristine white sand beaches despite the intense heat. The hotels along the coastline are ideal for relaxing, golfing, scuba diving, and for doing other water sports.
For less than $100 at any of these locations (excluding airfare or gas for the boat!) you can have a truly memorable and affordable vacation! While you’re basking in the sun of affordable fun, take some video and photos and upload them on SplashVision to share your getaway with the rest of the community!
That’s a wrap!
