Boston
During July 24th-27th, than the Corinthian Yacht Club is the place to be! That’s when the 2008 Boston NOOD regatta takes place!
So…what’s a NOOD regatta? A play on words for nudist yachters? No, not hardly. NOOD stands for ‘ National Offshore One Design’ and was coined in 1998 by Sailing World Magazine. Sailing World had decided to sponsor a series of Regattas. And with locations such as St.Petersburg, San Diego, Detroit, Chicago,
Boston
and more, it was an instant hit!
Each year, the NOOD regattas attract nearly to 2,000 boats, 30,000 competitors and even more spectators! Each regatta is held in a three-day series of sailboat racing. The boats must be 20-70 feet in lengths and be a one-design model. The regattas attract local sailors, of course, but the elite of the sailing world also participate from Olympic and ’s Cup champions!
Whether you decide to participate in the regatta or simply cheer on your favorite boat, there more to the weekend to do as well! Throughout the city, and especially on the waterfront local business and companies celebrate the regatta in grand style! Spectator’s cheer on their favorite boats and crewmembers and captains are treated to near celebrity status!

The heat is on…and we’ve found yet another cool and relaxing place to be other than the humid torture we live in! Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire has been a tourist destination for more than a century, especially for residents of New York City and Boston- who are looking for someplace close to escape the heat! The name Winnipesaukee means either "smile of the Great Spirit" or "beautiful water in a high place".
Do you remember the 1991 movie ‘What about Bob?’. Well, the movie was set right here. And if you remember the hilarious boating scene with Bill Murray strapped to the helm of a sail boat shouting ‘I’m Sailing!!!’ at the top of his lungs, then you have seen the great
Lake Winnipesaukee .
Lake Winnipesaukee is a glacial lake and an unusual one at that, since the last glaciation actually reversed the flow of its waters. Don’t feel bad if you have no clue what that means- I had to look it up to! Basically, it means that the lake once flowed southeast, leaving via what is now
Alton
Bay toward the Ocean. When glacial debris blocked this path, flow was redirected westward through
Paugus
Bay into the
Winnipesaukee
River . Basically it blocked up, and formed the lake!
Lake Winnipesaukee is one of the oldest tourist destinations in the Northeast and features local plays, shopping and some truly awesome clam bakes during the summer months! You can camp by the lake, rent a cabin lakeside, or stay in one of the charming bed and breakfasts. Fishing, boating and of course attending clam bakes are some of the favorite pastimes on the lake. As well as sleepy afternoon naps on hammocks!

Lobster Pounds
What a 200 dollar lobster looks like
Lobster is the star of
Maine
, and no trip to the eastern seaboards northernmost state is complete without a visit to one of the states plentiful lobster pounds.
Way back when, lobsters were so plentiful that Native Americans used them to fertilize their fields and to bait their hooks for fishing. In colonial times, lobsters were considered "poverty food." They were harvested from tidal pools and served to children, to prisoners, and to indentured servants, who exchanged their passage to for seven years of service to their sponsors.
But as we all know, lobster, especially GOOD lobster is now considered a delicacy. This occurred around World War II, when it was plentiful and affordable enough to be eaten regularly. Because of the supply, and the fact it was considered a delicacy, it was one of the few foods not rationed.
The first lobster pound appeared in
Vinalhaven, Maine
in 1875 and others quickly followed. Today, the thought of eating in
Maine
is rarely considered without having lobster on the menu at least once!

Bayleys Lobster Pound in
Scarborough, Maine

Thurston's Lobster Pound in Bernard is located in Bernard, which saeems reminiscent of most

And finally, Abels Lobster pound is noted for celebrity appearances (Martha Stewart appears on occasion). Their lobster is fantastic and their quaint location just north of
Northeast
Harbor
provides indoor or outdoor picnic type seating. They don’t have a website (tsk, tsk) but their phone number is: 207-276-5827.
