Searsport Shores Ocean-front Campground

Extreme Lobster Boil

Searsport Shores Ocean Front Campground is a unique and relaxing vacation destination, or base to explore the mid coast of Maine ! The nearby hiking, beach fishing, lobster villages, kayaking and sailing make for a perfect getaway retreat!

At Searsport Shores , you can rent a hammock for your site, relax by the fire in the oak-paneled recreation hall, walk the nature trails or enjoy a lecture on Maritime History, Astronomy, Ocean Biology or Crafts.

The best part of Searsport Shores ? Every Saturday night in July and August they have a succulent beachfront lobster bake.

It starts in the early afternoon when a fire is built to make a hot bed of coals. Then the staff pulls on the rubber boots and collects fresh seaweed from the shore while it’s still saturated with saltwater!

Shortly before dinner begins, the seaweed is piled onto steel plates and buckets of steamers & mussels, local lobsters, fresh corn on the cob, and mixed bags of sweet onions and potatoes are added to the mix. The whole deliciously good concoction is then baked over the coals while mouthwatering dinner guest anxiously await dinner!

But the finale is just as good as the dinner. Fresh cobblers are often served with locally made ice cream and coffee. Everyone sits around and talks about their voyages and journeys, discoveries and passions.

Go enjoy the lobster and the ocean! We look forward to seeing your crazy adventures here on SplashVision.

That’s a wrap!

While in Maine
June 06 , 2008

While in Maine …

It must be Maine

In keeping with our summer travel theme, once you finish your trip in Nantucket, why don’t you go north a bit and take in the sights Maine has to offer!

Sheepscott Harbor Village and resort on Davis Island is likely to offer you that restful get away you’ve been yearning for! And yes, they are pet friendly, so Fido can come too!

They offer Pier and Marine including day slips, deepwater moorings and coordination of boat storage, as well as complimentary use of dinghies.

On Thursday, June 14th, they will be hosting the Northeast Fly-fishing school- offering anyone who wants to get their ankles wet a chance to learn to throw the perfect cast!

And if you want to get off the water for a little while, they have a friendship with the nearby Boothbay Country Club, which has a 4 star rating from Golf Digest!

Maine is a beautiful tourist destination- the rocky coastline, lighthouses, shopping, dining and history offer a little something for everyone! Not to mention, they have the best lobster in the world!

So get off your cheeks and go do something this summer you will never forget, go experience the great state of Maine!

Make sure to send SplashVision your videos and photos  from your vacation! Show the world what a great time you had!

Tune in next week for our Lobster Bake feature.

That’s a wrap!

First Storm of 2008 Kills

Floods kill five in Belize

Tropical Rain From Arthur First Storm of 2008

Flash floods caused by tropical storm Arthur have killed at least five people in southeastern Belize, including a toddler, the government of the tiny Central American country said.

Arthur, the first storm of the year in the Atlantic, dumped over 28cm of rain across Belize this week as it moved inland, also drenching southern Mexican states.

The body of a 2-year-old boy was found on Tuesday evening. His father had struggled for half an hour in turbulent floodwaters before the infant was washed away.

Two people from the southeastern district of Stann Creek were still missing on Wednesday.
Belize, wedged between Mexico and Guatemala with a population of just 300,000, is best known for its laid-back atmosphere, palm-fringed islands and coral reefs.

Torrential rains from Arthur – which have also left swathes of southern Mexico waterlogged – swelled rivers in Belize and wiped away two bridges in the south, severing key transport arteries for Belize's farming and fishing industries.

"This was really a kind of freak occurrence that with the best will in the world, and all the resources in the world, we could not have anticipated," Prime Minister Dean Barrow, who became Belize's first black leader on taking office in February, said this week.

Authorities estimated that 13,000 people across the country were affected by Arthur.
