Ocean Dome Japan
May 30 , 2008
Year Round Summer
Wave Pool Japan
Summer time evokes visions of lying in the sand under a blue sky and warm sun, listening to waves lap the shore and to kids laughing as they splash and build sandcastles. My vision also includes a dreamy looking cabana boy bringing me some sugary sweet alcoholic beverage- preferably with an umbrella in it- but you can remove that from yours if you deem necessary.
The Ocean Dome, ’s unique, cliché and utterly updated version of Paradise lies inside a huge dome that could house six soccer fields and hosts the world’s largest artificial sea, which washes over the biggest indoor beach, and for added measure, is fringed with fake palm trees and other eye-popping innovations, including exploding volcanoes.
But, whereas Mother Nature can be unpredictable, life in the Ocean Dome is perfect. Once every hour, on the hour, the surf is up. Every afternoon is a carnival. Mechanized parrots squawk from branches of the dome’s rain forest, which remain lush and tropical without rainfall or humidity. Best of all, in Ocean Dome, you can lull for hours on crushed marble pebbles without a worry about beach vendors, bugs or sun burns.
Instead, perfectly-timed waves whip equally well-groomed surfers along in 28-degree, chlorinated, salt-free water to the sanitized shore where they drip-dry in Ocean Dome’s perfect climate, which remains a delightful 30 degrees, day and night, 365.25 days each year.
Paradise lies south of Tokyo in Miyazaki, on ’s southernmost Kyushu Island. A heated ocean sends 13,500 tons of salt-free water sweeping across 600 tons of polished marble chips that constitute shoreline all ringed by a three-story promenade of shops.
For me, a CGI-ish version of paradise seems nice during the winter months, but here- the temps are warm, the sun is shining and the surf is warm. And the kids and me are headed to the beach this weekend. To relish in our nature made paradise.
Should you have the chance to stop by the Ocean Dome, though…make sure you take some videos and upload them to Spalshvision! After all- not everyone is as blessed as we are to enjoy the REAL surf and sun!
That’s a wrap! (Now, about that umbrella drink…)

USS Kitty Hawk Retires
May 29 , 2008
Final Voyage of the USS Kittyhawk
The aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, the oldest active ship in the Navy, has made its final departure from
to be decommissioned after nearly fifty years of service.
Seeing as I am originally from
Kitty Hawk, NC- the ships namesake, I am particularly fond of her!
As sailors lined its decks, the cheers of hundreds of school children and the sounds of brass bands bid a fond farewell to The Kitty Hawk as it left the Yokosuka port just south of
Tokyo .
It flew the “Don’t Tread on Me” flag, which designates it as the oldest ship in the Navy.
The
Kitty Hawk , the last conventionally powered aircraft carrier in the Navy, is to be replaced later this summer by the nuclear-powered carrier George Washington.
After leaving , the Kitty Hawk will make a stop at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and then travel on to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in
Bremerton, Wash. , to be decommissioned.
The ship, commissioned in 1961, was assigned to in 1998. It has since made 20 deployments in the western Pacific and participated in Operation Enduring Freedom in .
Do you have footage of the USS Kitty Hawk during her service, or her final departure in ? Upload your video and photos to SplashVision today!
That’s a wrap!

Miami Summer Boat Show
May 27 , 2008
2008 South Florida Boat Show
Miami Boat Show Convention Center The 2008 South Florida Boat show is coming in a couple of weeks- just as the summer boating season is swinging into high gear! This is the largest summer boat show in the south eastern United States, and is well worth the $10 admission price (or $5 if you are a little one!). Even better, is that vendors have stated that this show promises the lowest boat prices of the season! And considering the price of gas, well…that’s a good thing! It’s also a great time to get a new boat before the 2009 models come out with their higher price tags! Powerboats and personal watercraft and tenders will be featured in price ranges from $5000 to upwards of $250,000! Other vendors will feature nautical accessories and decorations, engines, lifts, fishing gear, diving gear and accessories, marine electronics and much more! Each day will offer special free features such as boating, fishing and diving seminars. Door and vendor prizes will also be awarded!
2008 Show Dates: Miami Beach Convention Center Friday, June 13, 2008 through Monday, June 16, 2008
Swing by the show and take some video and photos of your favorite vendors, the special features or the great deal you snagged on something! Then upload it to SplashVision and share with the community!
See you there!
