A new generation of ships is about to start harnessing the wind to help power them.
Two German companies have developed a hi-tech kite system to help pull large ships across the ocean.
The computer guided system is expected to cut carbon emissions and fuel costs by 20%, saving more than NZ$2000 dollars a day.
